Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office, ANCISRO, a new agency created by Governor Chukwuma Soludo has said that value reorientation can save people from death and embarrassment as was seen in recent stampedes across the country.
The Managing Director of the agency, Mr Chuka Nnabuife said reorientating the people on core values, etiquette and the right way of doing things is the core mandate of the agency.
Speaking during an end-of-year event organized by the agency for its management and staff on Tuesday, Nnabuife said if those who died in a stampede in Oyo, Abuja and Anambra recently had imbibed etiquette, they would have known that their hosts had enough food items and cash for everyone, and would not have rushed to get them by force, which led to the stampede.
He said: “The way we are going, we would not achieve a livable and prosperous homeland if we continue without law and order and keep ignoring our civic responsibilities.
“All through the ages in history, great societies never toyed with maintaining orderliness through upholding their laws and encouraging citizens as well as sojourners to live up to their civic duties.
“The situation has gone so bad that in homes, communities, including faith-based organisations such as churches, mosques, places of traditional worship and others where morals and ethics used to be the stronghold of teaching and orientation, how to get rich quick has taken over.
“If those who died in the stampede had maintained some level of orderliness, the food items would have gotten to everyone.
“Greed, rage, crimes, killings, even suicide and unprecedented vices now mark the news and public discussions day by day.”
He said the creation of the agency was timely and has the core mandate of reshaping the people’s psyche to achieve orderliness and imbibe the right way of doing things on the people.
He said: “Prof. Chukwuma Soludo established ANCISRO on September 1, 2024, with its chores clearly cut out to inspire and instil an enduring reformation of the values and social conduct of Ndi Anambra with the view of making the state livable and robustly prosperous.
“This comes timely, amid an unprecedented fast degeneration of values and sense of civic responsibility among our people.
