Sack ministers who shun Senate summons – Orji Kalu tells Tinubu

Former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, has hit out at ministers who do not respond to Senate summons.

Speaking during plenary on Friday, Kalu urged President Bola Tinubu to sack defaulting ministers.

The Abia North senator also urged the Senate to punish ministers, as well as contractors, who snub the parliament’s summons.

“They will insult our chairmen and people working in the Senate. You will invite a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and some of them will not listen to the chairmen of the committee.

“Enough is enough, we should query these ministers and ask Mr President to drop them.

“How can a chairman of a committee be looking for a minister for close to three, four days and they will not answer phone?

“So they are doing the same thing Julius berger is doing.”

Kalu emphasized the need for the ministers and heads of various parastatals to respect the senators.

“The parliament must put a performance record for every minister, head of parastatals and submit to the commander-in-chief.

“We are not here for joke, we have to use our powers,” he added.
