Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has instructed the club’s board to negotiate a contract extension with Amad Diallo.

The Ivorian was instrumental in United’s 4-0 win against Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Diallo has started two of Amorim’s three matches in charge, playing in a right wing-back position.

The former Atalanta winger provided two assists against the Toffees and played a major role in a third goal by winning back the ball for Bruno Fernandes to set-up Joshua Zirkzee.

Amad struggled for game time under Erik ten Hag but he looks for a big future under Amorim.

‘He is really big in talent, but small in size,’ said Amorim.

‘He did a great job but he also has to improve. He was really good again.

‘You could feel it in the end of the game he was really, really tired so we have to manage that and increase his physical ability. I’d like to take credit for [Amad’s pressing], but that’s him. He’s like that. He’s smart. He’s explosive.’

However, the Ivorian’s deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season.

United have the option of extending that by a further 12 months but need to make a decision before January 1st, when he could theoretically be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with other clubs.

The Telegraph say United don’t want it to get to that stage and would prefer to negotiate a new deal with Amad.

The 22-year-old is happy at Old Trafford and is keen to stay at the club.

But he can expect a significant increase on the deal he signed when he joined the club from Atalanta in a £37m deal in 2020.
