The Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced its intention to challenge Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election, declaring its readiness to seize power in the state.
This statement was made on Thursday during the inauguration of NNPP offices across the Ila, Boripe, and Ifelodun local government areas.
Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, Chairman of the Osun NNPP, expressed confidence in the party’s ability to secure victory, attributing its optimism to dissatisfaction with the current administration and economic challenges affecting the populace.
“We in NNPP are optimistic about our chances in the 2026 poll. The current economic hardship is demarketing the APC at the federal level, while the PDP administration in Osun has shown limited capacity to improve governance. This gives us an edge as we gear up to end Governor Adeleke’s reign,” Odeyemi declared.
He encouraged party members to stay united and focused, assuring them that the NNPP is positioned for significant success in Osun State.

In response, the Osun chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dismissed the NNPP’s claims as hollow and unrealistic.
Speaking to journalists, the PDP’s Director of Media and Publicity, Oladele Bamiji, defended Governor Adeleke’s administration, citing its accomplishments and widespread public approval.
“They are just trying to please their sponsors. The NNPP cannot stop the re-election of a performing governor like Senator Ademola Adeleke. The people of Osun will not allow anyone to derail the progress the state is currently enjoying,” Bamiji asserted.
He further emphasized that Adeleke’s administration has delivered on its promises and is positioned to secure a second term, regardless of opposition threats.
The exchange between the NNPP and PDP underscores the escalating political atmosphere in Osun State as parties begin laying the groundwork for the 2026 elections. While the NNPP projects itself as a viable alternative, the PDP remains confident in the governor’s popularity and achievements.
