Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has kicked off the construction of the 55-km Gulu-Evuti-Lambata Road in Lapai Local Government Area under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, RAAMP, to alleviate the suffering of motorists and boost the movement of agricultural produce.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Digital Media and Strategy, Abdullberqy Usman Ebbo, on his Social Media X handle said residents of Lapai LGA have struggled for decades with the deplorable condition of the road, which has caused them the loss of produce worth millions of naira annually.
He also stated that the project is aimed at improving rural connectivity and agricultural productivity.
“The people of Azza Community in Lapai LGA of Niger State, particularly farmers and frequent road users, have faced untold hardships where many are forced to leave their vehicles in Lapai when travelling to Azza by boarding commercial vehicles to avoid damaging their cars.
“The commencement of this road project brings renewed hope for a better future for several communities within the area economically and socially, ” he disclosed.
Ebbo explained that the journey along this 55km road should take less than an hour, but road users along the route often spend 3-4 hours during the dry season and even longer time during the rainy season.
The special adviser further explained that the project is part of the Rural Development Agenda of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s administration.
