Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, as a jobless person who only went into activism when he could not get into power through the back door.
The former Rivers State governor who was reacting to Adeyanju’s criticism of ongoing demolitions in Abuja, said the lawyer was frustrated because he (Wike) could not make him the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Last Friday, Adeyanju along with social media activist, Vincent Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMark, had led a protest against the FCT Minister over the demolition of the Ruga settlement along Airport Road, in the nation’s capital.
During the protest, Adeyanju had said there was no justification for this demolition, urging President Bola Tinubu to urgently address the matter.
In a video message addressed to the Minister, VDM had said:
“Dear Nyesom Wike, I wasn’t
paid and I am definitely not trying to blackma!l you and ľ’m sure Deji Adeyanju wasn’t paid
either; just be honorable and more human and have sympathy.
“Relocate them and continue your development, you can’t protect Abuja like this, what you are doing now will put us in a terrible situation in future; thank you sir.”

But while reacting to the perceived attacks, Wike, in a media parley with selected journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, blasted Adeyanju and called him several derogatory names including being a jobless interloper.
According to Wike, Adeyanju’s grouse stemmed from the fact that he once turned down the request of the activist to be given the role of Publicity Secretary of the PDP.
“I saw one young man, they call him Adeyanju. He is from Kogi State. This young boy came to me that he wants to be the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP and I said no,” Wike said.
“I said he won’t be, and he was not. I have no regret about it. He has suddenly become a civil society activist. He has no job and that’s why he decided to turn to a civil society activist,” he said.
