OBIdient Movement, Labour Party clash, as vice chairman fires back at Nat’l coordinator

Labour Party’s North-Central Vice-Chairman, Ibrahim Idoko, has fired back at Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the ‘Obidient Movement’, for claiming the movement is larger than the party and responsible for its newfound prominence.

Tanko made these assertions in a recent Arise News interview, highlighting the movement’s independence and potential to switch allegiances in the 2027 elections to uphold its values of good governance and accountability.

Idoko, in a press statement on Wednesday, swiftly dismissed Tanko’s comments, labeling him a political opportunist seeking to impress his paymasters.

“This is laughable, coming from a one-time national chairman of a deregistered political party,” Idoko said in a press statement. “Tanko and his allies need a brief history lesson on the Labour Party and its successes before the rise of the Obidient Movement.’

Idoko emphasized the Labour Party’s impressive track record, citing notable victories across Nigeria long before the Obidient Movement’s emergence.

“His Excellency, Alex Otti, the current Governor of Abia State, is not the first governor elected on the Labour Party’s platform. Olusegun Mimiko, a former Governor of Ondo State, served two terms.”

He further listed prominent politicians elected under the Labour Party’s banner, including Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Joshua Dariye, and Hon. Samuel Godday. “Tanko is being mischievous, seeking relevance from his paymasters. If he and his allies wish to pursue an alternative path in 2027, so be it. We bear no grudges.”

Idoko reaffirmed the North-Central LP chairmen’s commitment to supporting Barr. Julius Abure, the party’s national chairman. “We’re confident that under Abure’s leadership, the Labour Party will grow stronger and emerge victorious in the 2027 elections.”
