Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, Managing Director, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has commended the authority’s officers for promptness in saving lives from accidents.
Bakare-Oki, in a statement on Monday in Lagos, said that the officers’ promptness saved lives from two different recent lone accidents.
The statement was signed by Mr Taofiq Adebayo, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA.
He said that the accidents took place at Obanikoro and Chevron areas of Lagos State
According to Bakare-Oki, the first accident occurred at Obanikoro on Ikorodu Road near Aret Adams House, Savoil, and involved a commercial Suzuki mini-bus with registration number KTU 527 XN.
“This vehicle overturned, entrapping the driver, a conductor, and a female passenge – all of whom suffered significant injuries,” he said.
He said that LASTMA officers responded with remarkable immediacy, orchestrating a comprehensive rescue effort.
He said that the bus driver, who sustained critical fractures, was rushed to the National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi, for urgent treatment.
“Simultaneously, the injured conductor received immediate medical assistance facilitated by the Lagos State Ambulance Services.
“The female passenger, also injured, was conscientiously handed over by LASTMA officers to her family members, who arrived at the scene shortly after,” he said.
Bakare-Oki said that the second accident occurred near the Chevron area on the Lekki-Ajah Expressway.
He said that it involved a speeding Toyota Camry (registration number KSF 913 JK) which lost control and veered into a deep gutter.
“Due to LASTMA’s rapid intervention, further casualties were avoided and an injured passerby was promptly attended to while the vehicle was carefully removed and secured under the supervision of a police personnel,” he said.
He said that LASTMA officers were rigorously trained to respond to emergency situations with precision.
According to him, the officers’ swift actions in the incidents showed LASTMA’s commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring the security of all road users in Lagos.
“The well-being of our citizens remains paramount.
“We urge all drivers to adhere to established speed regulations and maintain vigilance on the roads.
“In line with its dedication to public safety, LASTMA affirms its ongoing mission to uphold traffic order and emergency responsiveness across Lagos State.
