The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Gyogon Augustine Grimah, has ordered a thorough investigation of a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of ‘B’ Division, Calabar.

This follows a viral video where a man’s voice is heard screaming, alleging her involvement in the diversion of sensitive electoral materials on November 2, 2024, the day of local council elections in Cross River State.

The commissioner did not disclose the name of the policewoman.

He stated that the investigation would help address the allegations.

He called on anyone with clear evidence regarding the allegations to come forward to aid the investigation.

In a statement signed on his behalf by SP Irene Ugbo, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Grimah said, “The Cross River State Police Command is aware of a video circulating online, showing the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘B’ Division, Calabar, alleged to have supported a particular political party at a hotel within her area of responsibility during the Local Government Elections on November 2, 2024.

“The Command clarifies that the DPO was acting on credible intelligence regarding electoral materials allegedly diverted from the designated polling center at the Women Development Center, Calabar, to a hotel.

“In response, the DPO led officers to recover and secure these materials, ensuring their safe transport to the appropriate voting location.”

The Command has urged the public to remain calm as they intensify their findings, which will be communicated upon conclusion.

They assured that they remain steadfast in upholding law and order with the highest standards.
