Ganduje to Okpebholo: Focus on governance, not revenge

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, on Thursday, advised the Edo State Governor-Elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to prioritize governance over unnecessary conflicts with the outgoing administration.

Ganduje made the appeal when he received a delegation of Edo APC led by the former lawmaker who came to the party secretariat in Abuja on a “thank you” visit.

Okpebholo was declared winner of the September 21 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after he polled 291,667 votes to defeat his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, who garnered 247,274 votes.

However, the transition period has been marred by accusations of looting against the outgoing administration.

Ganduje cautioned that a progressive government should not engage in unnecessary fights with its predecessor.

He said; “You should not focus on the previous administration. Look forward, don’t look back and waste your time fighting the person you took over from,” he emphasized. Instead, Ganduje encouraged Okpebholo to deliver on his campaign promises, stating:

“Focus on the manifesto you painstakingly produced… Think forward and be an action governor. During the campaign, you were an action candidate, and now you are an action governor. We believe it. We believe you will succeed and make the people of our winning state proud.”

Okpebholo expressed gratitude to Ganduje, APC governors and President Bola Tinubu for their support during the election

He praised Tinubu for ensuring peace in Edo State, saying:

“It wasn’t an easy one… I know how many times the chairman called me. He came for the election, and his impact was great.

“I also want to use this opportunity to thank Mr. President, who secured Edo for us. There was absolute peace in Edo State… Before now, there was this kind of boast that people would die. But on election day, nobody died.”
