Members of the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) are monitoring Botswana’s general elections, with Nigeria’s former President Goodluck Jonathan leading the team in Gaborone, the country’s capital.
In a statement shared on X.com, Jonathan expressed his support for a peaceful electoral process, saying, “Out early on Election Day in Botswana, we, as members of the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM), visited some polling stations in Gaborone, the nation’s capital city.”
This election marks Botswana’s 13th since gaining independence in 1965, with voters aiming to build on the country’s strong democratic foundations.
Jonathan added, “We wish Batswana a successful outing as they seek to further consolidate the nation’s vibrant democracy.”
The AUEOM is conducting its observations throughout the day, ensuring compliance with international electoral standards and transparency.
