Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has come to the defense of President Bola Tinubu, dismissing claims that he is unfeeling and insensitive to the plight of Nigerians.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Onanuga emphasized that Tinubu understands the challenges faced by Nigerians and is committed to improving their situation.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had earlier this month labelled the president “T-Pain” in the wake of the latest hike in petrol price.
Onanuga said; “The President feels the pain of Nigerians and has assured them that better days are nearer than before,” Onanuga stated. He also addressed the nickname “T-pain” given to Tinubu on social media, labeling it “mischievous” and stressing that the President has not taken office to inflict hardship but rather to rebuild Nigeria’s economy.
“Some people have also responded and called the President a different name. So, as far as I am concerned, it is a non-issue.

“Some people out of mischief just say somebody is a T-pain, He (Tinubu) is not T-pain.
“The President has never shied away from telling Nigerians that he feels their pain and he is working very hard to make sure that he gives them some relief so that things will get better and this country will get more prosperity.”
He acknowledged the economic difficulties Nigerians face, including unprecedented food inflation and quadrupled energy prices. However, he highlighted that despite galloping inflation, Nigeria is experiencing economic growth and increased revenues.
Nigerians have blamed the Tinubu administration’s policies, particularly the removal of petrol subsidies and unification of forex rates, for the high living costs affecting the middle class. Citizens have staged two major protests, pressing the All Progressives Congress (APC) government to reverse its “reforms.” However, the administration maintains that these policies are necessary and won’t be reversed.
Many Nigerians have expressed frustration and skepticism towards Onanuga’s claims, with some labeling Tinubu “T-pain” due to the perceived pain inflicted by his policies. Others have criticized the administration’s focus on “petty politics” rather than addressing pressing economic issues.
