A Non-Governmental Organisation, Enablers Diaspora Grassroots Support Outreach, has organised free medical outreach for 1000 persons in Akure, Ondo State.

The President of EDGSO, Mrs Ayoyinka Wilson, at the annual free medical outreach on Friday in Akure, said the exercise was to touch lives and give back to the community.

Wilson, also a registered nurse in the United Kingdom, said that the 2024 medical outreach commenced from Oyo State to Ekiti before Ondo State, where they attended to 1,000 beneficiaries.

She said the NGO aimed to provide free medical check-ups and treatment for the poor, aged, and average individuals who could not afford treatment.

The president urged beneficiaries to take their health issues seriously, always endeavor to use their drugs rightly, and shun self-medication.

She also gave a health talk and acknowledged the support of the Otunba Yomi Akingbade Foundation which provided EDGSO with foodstuffs for the Akure beneficiaries.

”Our target is to take care of 1,000 beneficiaries. We are treating all participants and giving them multivitamins, paracetamol, and other drugs.

“Apart from drugs, we are giving foodstuffs and household essentials to them,” she said.

A beneficiary, Mrs Yemisi Adeyeye, a 67-year-old woman, commended the foundation and appealed to the state government to conduct similar medical outreaches in Ondo rural communities.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the outreach included checking blood pressure, health education on chronic and preventive diseases, and free medical check-ups.

Other services rendered at the outreach include the free distribution of basic medications, sensitisation on eating and living healthy, and awareness of dementia and memory loss.
