The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Edo State on Wednesday, categorically denied allegations of obstructing political parties from inspecting election materials and BVAS machines used in the recent governorship election.
Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, Resident Electoral Commissioner in Edo, described the accusations as “baseless, misleading, and devoid of truth.”
The controversy began when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, claimed INEC was disobeying a court order granting inspection of the election materials.
However, Onuoha clarified that INEC had scheduled the inspection for Wednesday at its Benin headquarters, inviting all interested parties to participate.

“The inspection of election materials is the fundamental right of all political parties involved in election petitions,” Onuoha stated. “INEC under my leadership in Edo remains committed to upholding the highest standards of transparency, fairness, and integrity of all electoral processes.”
Onuoha assured unhindered access to the materials for parties and candidates, provided they follow proper procedures outlined by the election petition tribunal and relevant legal frameworks.
He urged stakeholders to disregard misinformation and emphasized INEC’s loyalty to the Nigerian people, the Constitution, and the rule of law.
The commission encouraged parties to engage with their office through appropriate legal channels regarding inspection of materials.
