Levi Colwill has offered a glowing endorsement of interim England manager Lee Carsley, praising the ‘bit of arrogance’ he has about the quality of the team.
Carsley got off to a good start in charge of his country, picking up 2-0 wins over Ireland and Finland last month.
He has two more games ahead of him in the coming days, with the Three Lions hosting Greece and then going to Finland for the reverse fixture in the Nations League.
The former Everton and Birmingham midfielder has strengthened his case to take the job on a permanent basis and is a genuine contender for the role, with Colwill sounding like he is on board with the idea.
The Chelsea defender has high praise for the rookie manager, saying he has quickly won over the senior squad after stepping up from his role with the Under-21s.
‘I think the lads really like him,’ said the three-cap England star. ‘I do and I can only really talk about myself. I trust him and we’ll see what happens in the future.
‘He’s a very calm person. I think he brings that to the team. An amazing person and a strong-minded manager. He knows how he wants to play and how it matches the players we’ve got.

‘He has a bit of arrogance about the team and himself, in terms of “we’ve got the best players in the world” and we all believe that we can take it that next step to winning a huge competition.
‘I think, with us, we are a big nation, a huge nation and for example at club, as well, we’re a big team with amazing players so to have that mindset, I think all the players already know that and they are already tuned into that and they want to be the best possible.
‘So I think when everyone’s on the same wavelength, it works perfectly.’
England host Greece on Thursday before travelling to take on Finland in Helsinki on Sunday.
