The Lagos State Coordinator, Rotary Action Group for Peace, Adebukunola Soile-Balogun, has urged Nigerians to embrace environmental conservation.
Soile-Balogun, an advocate of clean environment, stated that eco-harmony is a collective endeavour to create a sustainable and stress-free world.
She stated this on Saturday at a peace summit organised by The Rotary Club of Akoka, District 9112, in collaboration with the Peace Arena for Youth Foundation, at the University of Lagos.
Speaking on the theme “Eco Harmony: Promoting Peace, Preserving Nature” Soile-Balogun said, “Eco-harmony is not just a personal journey but a collective endeavour to create a sustainable and stress-free world.
“Live in harmony with your environment. The beauty of Eco-Harmony is that we gain a lot from it; not just ourselves but future generations to come.
“We all have potential inside of us; discover your potential, develop yourself, speak with someone to guide you and encourage yourself on this path.
“It’s okay to feel that emotional fatigue when the headlines are bleak, but believe that the smallest of actions can make the biggest impact.
“Being close to our inner consciousness, that is, practicing mindfulness and physical exercises, bringing about changes in our lifestyle habits, engaging in social & community activities and all other vital aspects that bring about optimum health and well-being in nature.”
She also encouraged participants to become ambassadors of peace in their communities and advocates of nature.
In her remarks, the President of the Rotary Club of Akoka, District 9112, Doyin Ogunyemi, charged Nigerians to practice tolerance and empathy towards others.
To stand against bullying, Ogunyemi asked young Nigerians to resolve conflicts through dialogue, and accept people who may be different from them.
She said, “Remember, a peaceful world starts with peaceful individuals. To preserve the environment, protecting it starts with small action like reducing waste, recycling materials, and using resources wisely. Plant trees, avoid single-use plastics, and conserve water and energy.
“By caring for the environment, you ensure that future generations will have a healthy planet to live on.
“The smallest of actions can make the biggest impact. Protection can truly happen in your backyard. Living peacefully with the environment by making your environment clean
“Love yourself first, then everything around you. Recognise how your decision affecs your environment.
“We can change the world, one decision at a time. Characteristics of Eco-harmony is to make sure your environment is peaceful.”
