Nurses under the aegis of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Kano State Government to meet its members’ demands or risk industrial action.
The association stated that the decision arose from a State Administrative Council meeting following the government’s failure to address issues affecting its members in a series of correspondences.
The notice was signed by the association’s acting State Secretary and Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Sharada, and addressed to the Kano State Head of Civil Service.
According to the notice, all nurses and midwives in the state will embark on a strike by withdrawing services from clinical facilities and training institutions across the state after the expiration of the notice.
“The notice commences from Wednesday, 2nd October, to 16th October 2024,” the notice stated.
The various charter of demands includes a request to pay a reviewed hazard allowance for nurses, harmonisation of the Scheme of Service for nurses, and the payment of a 259% upward review of the CONHESS salary for nurses.
Recall that medical doctors, under the auspices of the National Association of Government General and Medical Dental Practitioners in Kano State, began an indefinite strike on 1st October 2024, due to the state government’s failure to fulfill its agreement.
The secretary of the association in Kano, Dr. Anas Hassan, made this known while addressing journalists on the outcome of their meeting on Saturday last week.
