Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu has condemned the killing of a couple, Jacob Udo and his wife, Comfort Udo, describing it as horrific and senseless.
The couple until their brutal death, resided in the Isiala Autonomous Community in the metropolis of Bende local government area of Abia State but originally hailed from Itumbuzor in the same Bende local government area.
They were reportedly beheaded and their bodies dismembered by yet-to-be-identified assailants Tuesday night.
The Deputy Speaker whose message was signed by Livinus Nwabughiogu, his Chief Press Secretary said the heinous act of violence is unacceptable and violates the fundamental human right to life.
Kalu who represents Bende Federal Constituency, pointed out that no cause or grievance justifies such a brutally inhumane and dastardly act.
He sympathised with the victims’ families and called on the Abia State government and the law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
The Deputy Speaker called for calm and restraints amongst the communities in the constituency, cautioning against reprisal attacks even as he assured his constituents that the authorities would do the needful to ensure that the killers are found and punished for their crimes.
“I unequivocally condemn the brutal killing of the couple. This shocking act of violence contradicts humanity’s basic principles. My thoughts are with the victims’ families and their loved ones”, he said.
