A lap dancing club in a busy city wants to lower its minimum age and allow its performers to dance fully nude in some areas.
Flirtz, off Friar Lane in Nottingham, has been operating since 2006 but currently only people aged 21 and over are allowed inside.
The strip club has now applied to allow people aged 18 and over into the venue, to have full nudity allowed in some areas, and to extend its opening hours from 4am until 6am.
But the local police force has raised concerns about ‘immature’ university students being allowed into the club and being able to see fully nude dancers.
They say they’d prefer if 18 to 20-year-olds were only allowed access to areas where dancers aren’t completely naked.
In the areas without full nudity, dancers must wear ‘at least a G-string’ and clothing ‘shall not be transparent’, the licence conditions currently state.
In their application, the owners of the club said: ‘The applicant company has operated at 26A Friary Chambers in accordance with stringent licensing conditions since December 2006.
‘The applicant company also operated at Flirtz, Lumley Road, Skegness, from 2005 until 2018.
‘The directors of Alljay Leisure Limited have a total of 34 years experience in the management of a sex establishment and training of staff within the industry.’
But in Nottinghamshire Police’s response, senior licensing enforcement officer Helen Guest-High said: ‘The 18 to 20-year age range would potentially attract the high number of students that reside within the city.
‘For some of these students, university life is the first time away from their family home and as such they can often be socially immature.
‘Permitting these individuals access to a premises that will potentially offer “full nudity” adult entertainment causes the police concern.
‘The police concerns would be somewhat allayed, however, if this age range were not permitted access to the area of the premises where this entertainment took place.
‘As the applicant proposes that this entertainment will only take place on the first floor, it would be both an appropriate and a proportionate response for the 18 to 20-year age range not to be permitted access to this floor.’
Flirtz is the only lap dancing club in Nottingham and its latest application will be decided by a city council meeting on September 24, the Nottingham Post reports.
