Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has suspended the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Otonye Briggs, with immediate effect.
According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi, Bitebobo Nelson Amieye has been directed to take over as the new Chairman.
The statement also instructed Briggs to hand over all council property in his possession to the incoming Caretaker Committee Chairman.
The tenure of the state’s Caretaker Committee Chairmen is set to expire on September 18, 2024.
The statement read, “The Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Hon Barrister Otonye Briggs, has been suspended with immediate effect.
“The Governor has directed Hon Bitebobo Nelson Amieye, to immediately take over as Chairman.
“Barrister Otonye Briggs is hereby directed to hand over all council property in his possession to the Caretaker Committee Chairman.“
