The suspected gunman in ex-President Donald Trump’s apparent second assassination attempt appeared shackled and displayed no emotion in court.
Ryan Wesley Routh, 25, wore a blue jumpsuit as he entered a federal courtroom in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Monday morning.
Moments earlier, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office released an image of him after his arrest on Sunday.
Routh wore a pink long-sleeved shirt and seemed to wince with his arms behind his back, while standing in front of a black vehicle.
In his first court appearance lasting only a few minutes, Routh calmly responded to US Magistrate Judge Ryon McCabe’s questions.
Asked about his earnings, Routh said he did not have money and owns two trucks in Hawaii worth roughly $1,000 apiece.
Routh has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon as well as possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. He may face additional more serious charges as an investigation into the incident continues.
He was represented by a public defender.
Roth’s bond hearing has been set for September 23.
