IET Promotes Reading, Gives Laptops, Cash Prizes In Online Quiz

Islamic Education Trust (IET) has presented laptops and cash prizes to the top 20 winners in the first edition of the online quiz on a book titled, “Authenticity of the Qur’an.”

The event tagged ‘Know Your Deen’ was organised by the Da’awah Institute of the Islamic Education Trust to encourage reading and scholarship among people.

In his opening remarks at the Award Ceremony, the director of general Islamic Education Trust (IET), Alhaji Arzika Abubakar Rimau, emphasised the importance of encouraging reading culture, which, according to him, was a habit that has fast been eroded, especially among young Nigerians.

Arzika said parents, individuals and organisations needed to imbibe the spirit of motivating young people to partake in activities that promote knowledge and understanding of the Glorious Qur’an, stressing that scholarly exercise was even more accessible in the current era of ICT.

While congratulating the winners, Alhaji Arzika appreciated the support and collaboration from partners.
Speaking on the purpose of the online quiz, the director of Research and Training of the IET, Sheikh Nurudeen Muhammad Lemu, said the book Authenticity of the Qur’an was deliberately chosen for the quiz to help Muslims understand why the Qur’an is a word of Allah.

He disclosed that over 26,000 people registered while over 13,000 took the quiz, among which the top 20 winners emerged. He added that Da’awah Institute, with her partners, is considering organising a similar quiz every six months to revive the reading culture.

Sheikh Nurudeen said the Institute was interested in memorising and encouraging a deeper understanding of Islamic literature among the people, especially the youth.

The first and second positions, won by Hadiza Muhammad Jima from Niger State and Ibrahim Aminu from Kaduna State, were presented with brand new laptops each and cash prizes of N500,000 and N350,000. In contrast, the third position, won by Abdulmughny Aboaba from Osun State, was presented with a computer and a cash prize of #150,000, respectively.

Similarly, the 4th to 10th positions were presented with a N100,000 cash prize each, and the 11th to 20th positions won N50,000 each.
