Man Utd vs Liverpool player ratings: Casemiro woeful as Mohamed Salah runs riot at Old Trafford

Liverpool cruised to a commanding 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford to pile pressure on Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.

Luis Diaz scored twice in the first half as Arne Slot’s side clinically punished two poor mistakes from Casemiro.

And Mohamed Salah – provider for the Reds’ first two goals – got in on the act after the break with a fine finish past Andre Onana.

Here’s how Metro.co.uk rated the performances from both sets of players.

Manchester United

Andre Onana –  5/10

Not much could be done about the first two but perhaps may think he could have got a hand on Salah’s goal. Sloppy in possession on a couple of occasions.

Noussair Mazraoui –  4/10

Looked positive on the few occasions he was allowed to go forward but was nowhere to be seen as Diaz nodded in at the far post to open the scoring.

Matthijs de Ligt –  5/10

Thrown in at the deep end in his first start for the club. Impressed in some of his individual duels in the first half but picked up a deserved yellow card for an awful challenge on Diaz after the break.

Lisandro Martinez –  4/10

Not helped out by his midfield for any of the goals but almost made it worse for his team after giving it away cheaply moments after Salah’s goal.

Diogo Dalot –  5/10

A tough task up against Salah in this form but was largely let down by those around him.

Casemiro –  2/10

Could well be his last match in the starting XI and showed exactly why United were keen to bring in Manuel Ugarte. At fault for the first two goals and looked woefully off the pace in the middle of the park before being hauled off at the break.

Kobbie Mainoo –  4/10

Still struggling to reach the heights of his breakthrough season last year. Not helped by Casemiro’s presence alongside him but only has himself to blame for Liverpool’s third after gifting the ball away to Mac Allister.

Alejandro Garnacho – 5/10

United fans booed the decision to sub him off in the second half but, in truth, the Argentine rarely threatened as he made his first start of the season.

Bruno Fernandes –  5/10

Started this game in his preferred attacking midfield role for the first time this season but struggled to have the impact he would have hoped for. A few sloppy passes in the final third.

Marcus Rashford –  4/10

Had a chance to take on Konate midway through the second half but turned back and passed it to his centre-back. Emblematic of a player devoid of any confidence.

Joshua Zirkzee –  6/10

Was largely working off scraps but did well to test Alisson on two occasions in the second half. before missing a good chance late on.

Substitutes

Toby Collyer (Casemiro, 46′) –  5/10

Harry Maguire (De Ligt 69′) –  5/10

Amad Diallo (Garnacho 69′) –  6/10

Christian Eriksen (Zirkzee 86′) –  N/A

Liverpool

Alisson –  7/10

Was a spectator for the majority of the first half but got down well to save two efforts from Zirkzee after the break.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10

Was unlucky to see his first-half goal ruled out for an offside in the build-up but another impressive display from the full-back.

Ibrahima Konate –  7/10

The second centre-back position alongside Van Dijk looks like his to lose now. Another composed display at the back.

Virgil van Dijk – 7/10

Picked up a yellow card for a foul on Fernandes but bossed the threat of United’s attackers otherwise.

Andy Robertson –  6/10

Kept Garnacho quiet and did the same against the lively Amad when he came on in the closing stages.

Ryan Gravenberch –  8/10

Has thrived so far playing in the deepest role in Arne Slot’s midfield. Surged forward with great purpose and made the vital interception to set up Liverpool’s opening goal.

Alexis Mac Allister –  7/10

A great challenge on Mainoo to turn over possession and set Salah’s goal in motion. Solid and dependable in midfield.

Mohamed Salah – 8/10

The Egyptian continues his fine start to the season with two assists at Old Trafford. Looks to be playing a more creative role under Slot but was no less devastating.An inch-perfect cross for the first followed by a deft pass to set up Diaz’s second before getting in on the action himself after the break.

Dominik Szobozlai –  7/10

An energetic display from the Hungarian who covered every blade of grass at Old Trafford. Did well to get out of the way for Diaz’s opener and combined neat attacking touches with dutiful defensive work.

A neat assist, too, for Salah’s goal but was wasteful with his own chance to get in on the act at the death.

Luis Diaz – 9/10

Rumours around his exit have long since subsided and the Colombian is thriving this season with another two goals added to his impressive early-season haul. The second finish, in particular, was the sign of a man full of confidence.

Diogo Jota –  6/10

Liverpool’s quietest attacker on the day but the Portuguese international looks to be building a great partnership alongside Salah and Diaz in Slot’s preferred front three.
