After finishing her huge residency in Germany, Adele gave an emotional farewell as she warned she would be away for ‘an incredibly long time’.

The Hello hitmaker has announced plans to take a break from performing after getting engaged to her partner Rich Paul last month.

Adele has just wrapped her residency in a purpose-built arena in Munich, with a capacity of 80,000 fans per night.

Ahead of the summer of shows, the 36-year-old singer had suggested she would take a ‘big break’ but has now clarified exactly what that means.

Getting emotional, she announced to the crowd that once she completes her final Las Vegas residency shows — which were postponed due to illness — she will say goodbye.

‘I will hold you dear in my heart for the whole of my break,’ Adele told fans, as seen in a video captured at the show.

She began her speech by thanking everyone in attendance at that final Saturday night show as well as anyone ‘who’s come to any one of my shows ever’.

Adele continued: ‘I’m not the most comfortable performer, but I am very f****** good at it, and I’ve really enjoyed performing for nearly three years now, which is the longest I’ve ever done, and probably the longest I would ever do.

‘But I have 10 shows left after this, back in my [Las Vegas] residency, because I was poorly earlier … so those got delayed, and obviously… [this] was supposed to be my last show.’

In February, Adele was forced to postpone five weeks of her Vegas shows due to concern for her vocal cords as she attempted to get back up to ‘full health’.

The Chasing Pavements icon added: ‘I’m thrilled that it’s not, because I still have exactly five weeks of shows, (be)cause it’s like weekends and stuff like that, and 10 shows to do.

‘And after that I will not see you for an incredibly long time, and I will hold you dear in my heart for the whole of my break, and I will fantasise about these shows, and any shows that I have done over the last three years.

‘I really, really hold them in the bottom of my heart forever, it has been amazing, I just need a rest and I have spent the last seven years building a new life for myself, and I want to live it now, I want to live my new life that I’ve been building.’

Attempting to hold back tears, Adele concluded that she would miss her fans ‘terribly’ and hoped they would meet again at her remaining shows.

Adele is known for taking huge gaps between her albums, which are all named after her age when she records them.

She has been living in the US for a long time now, ‘building a new life’ with partner Rich, who works as a sports agent.

The 43-year-old agent is the founder of Klutch Sports Group, which has represented high-profile basketball stars including LeBron James, Anthony Davis and John Wall.

After much speculation, Adele confirmed their engagement by showing off her sparkling ring while on stage in Munich.

Adele, who last released the album 30 in November 2021, is set to conclude her shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in November this year.

Her last performance in the UK was in July 2022 at the British Summer Time festival (BST) in Hyde Park.
