The summer weather is not over yet – although the last official day of the beloved season gets underway with risk of thunder.
It’s not quite time yet to dig out your warmer wardrobe. Although the meteorological summer ends officially today, it’s not the end of warm weather.
Because another mini-heatwave could be on its way to the south of the UK – London could see highs of 27°C on Sunday, the Met Office predicts.
However, there is also a risk of thundery downpours in parts of the UK today and tomorrow.

Here is what the UK weather has in store over the weekend according to the Met Office.
Weather on Saturday, August 31
Don’t be fooled by the chilly start early this morning – the rest of today is set to be fine and dry for most with sunshine.
But some clouds moving in in the south mean there could be some occasional showers in the south of England.

Temperatures could reach 20C in Scotland, Northern Ireland and across England today despite the mixed outlook.
But the best is yet to come tomorrow as temperatures start to rise in the south of England.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Harris said: ‘The forecast later this weekend and into the early part of next week comes with larger uncertainties than average, due to the complex interaction of a number of volatile, small scale weather features over and around the UK.
‘We are keeping warnings under review, and will look to issue them over this weekend as forecast confidence increases, so please keep up to date with our latest forecasts and warnings.
‘Finally, it’s worth also noting that conditions could briefly turn very warm, or even hot, across parts of the south and east, with a chance of temperatures into the high 20s of Celsius for some, but very much dependent on cloud breaks.’
While unlikely to become an official heatwave, the mini version of it could mean London and the south get to enjoy another warm spell on Sunday and early next week.
But as much as we might want to, there’s no way of denying the inevitable rains will arrive at some point.
Wet conditions will come as a relief for the nature as rainfall has been below average in places.
However, the wet conditions have created ideal conditions for giant spiders with a stinging bite known as false widow.
One woman said she almost lost her leg after her foot was infected and she suffered sepsis following a suspected false widow bite in a garden.
