Liverpool have struck a deal to sign Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, agreeing a bargain price of just €13m (£10.9m) for the Italian.

The Reds have been extremely quiet in the transfer market so far this summer, with the only signing so far the Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is only going to arrive at the club next year.

However, they have now made a significant signing with the deal to bring in the 26-year-old Italy international from Juventus.

Liverpool have long been credited with an interest in Chiesa and they have got him in a cut-price move as he is in the last year of his contract in Turin.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the initial fee of €13m (£10.9m) has been agreed, although that deal does have add-ons to come.

Chiesa will move to Anfield on a four-year contract and the transfer is expected to be completed later on Wednesday in plenty of time before Friday’s deadline.

Chiesa told SportItalia, as per Romano: ‘I’m very happy, I can’t wait to become a new Liverpool player. Me and my family, we’re so happy really.

‘Let me say thanks to Juventus and the fans, they have been always special with me. Now it’s time for Liverpool, I’m so happy. I can’t wait!’

Liverpool’s next outing is in the Premier League on Sunday in a tasty trip to old rivals Manchester United, meaning Chiesa could get his first taste of England football at Old Trafford.

The former Fiorentina player’s injury record has been cause for concern over his career so far, but he did make 37 appearances for Juventus last season in all competitions, scoring 10 goals.

He also featured in all four of Italy’s games at Euro 2024 over the summer, starting three of them.

His most serious injury problem came when he damaged his ACL in January 2022 and missed the majority of a year, not playing in Serie A from 9 January until his return on 6 November.

Last season saw him start 25 games in the Italian top flight, with eight further appearances off the bench.
