It’s been a while since we last had a bank holiday but finally the long weekend is almost upon us – and it’s a great chance to catch up on your household to-do list.
Many people across the country will choose to spend the extra day off we get on the August bank holiday doing some DIY and home improvement jobs.
From finally getting round to fixing things around the house to sprucing up your home to getting your hands dirty in the garden, the bank holiday Monday is a great chance to get productive.
Having said this, it’s important to check the opening times of the stores you might want to go to for household and gardening items.
Here’s what you need to know about opening and closing hours for B&Q, Homebase, Wickes and Screwfix over the August bank holiday weekend.
This year August bank holiday Monday falls on August 26.

This means on Monday August 26, B&Q will open from 7am or 8am and stay open until 8pm.
Opening times vary depending on the store so it’s best to check your local store’s opening times online, using B&Q’s Store Finder.
When is Homebase open over the bank holiday?
While it is dependent on which store you go to, Homebase will likely have reduced opening hours on bank holiday Monday.

Your local store may, for instance, not open until 10am and then close earlier than usual at 5pm.
The Saturday and Sunday before the bank holiday Monday will likely follow normal business hours for the weekend.
But make sure you check the Homebase Store Locator to see when your local store is opening and closing.

This means you’ll be able to visit and pick up supplies from 7am until 8pm.
However, as with the other stores, Wickes still recommends checking the opening hours of your local store in case they do vary.
You can find your nearest Wickes using the Wickes Store Locator.
