While A level students have already received their long-awaited exam results, GCSE pupils have to wait a little longer to find out if they’ve got the grades they want.
Now, GSCE results day is almost upon us, with students up and down the country preparing for their next step – whether that be A levels, BTECs, or another vocational course.
But first they’ll need to secure the required grades. Since 2020, GCSEs have been awarded on a 9-1 grading system, with the top students hoping to see a row of sevens, eights and nines when they open their results.
So what time will those all-important grades be available? Here’s what you need to know.
What time do GCSE results come out?
Exam results can be collected from 8am onwards on Thursday 22 August. However, some schools might stagger collection times to cope with demand.
Your individual school should announce what time it will be open for students to arrive and pick up the envelope containing their results.

If students don’t get the results they anticipated, teachers will be on hand to help them contact their school and college to discuss their next steps, or for information about resitting exams.
As for students waiting on BTEC results, these have already been released. BTEC results day occurred on Thursday 15 August.
How to collect GCSE results
GCSE results are usually available to pick up from your school.
Students do not normally need to bring ID for collection, though some schools may suggest this.
If you’re unable to go to your school in person on the day, then you need to contact your institution to make alternative arrangements – such as receiving results via email, or having a member of staff call you.
Alternatively, most schools will allow a family member or nominated guardian to pick up a set of results on the student’s behalf.

Can you appeal GCSE results?
If you are not happy with your GCSE results, you can ask your school to request a review from the exam board.
The exam board will then check your work for any marking mistakes, and your mark will change if they find any.
It’s worth noting that reviewed grades have the possibility of being upgraded or downgraded.
If you still think there’s a mistake, you can ask your school to appeal the result or request a review from Ofqual.
Ofqual must receive any requests for a review within 21 days of you getting the appeal decision from the exam board.
Alternatively, there is also the option to re-take the exam or assessment.
