Leadership of Imo Labour Party (LP) has said what the people want from the Supreme Court is justice in its petition before it challenging the erroneous judgments by the lower courts on the 2023 Imo gubernatorial polls.
The party said it is the responsibility of the apex court as the court of finality to ensure justice is done without fear or favour.
LP state Chairman, Calistus Ihejiagwa, who stated this, yesterday, at the party’s secretariat in Owerri, Imo State capital, said the people are eagerly awaiting for the Supreme Court to redress the erroneous judgments by the lower courts over the party’s petition challenging the outcome of the 2023 Imo gubernatorial polls.
“As you all know, the apex court will start the hearing of our petition challenging the judgments of the lower courts regarding the much-discredited 2023 Imo gubernatorial elections, which did not meet the minimum international standards in electoral transparency and compliance with various municipal electoral laws.
“Our decision to seek the intervention of the courts stems from the need to ensure the preservation of the choice of the majority of Imolites from being stolen or trampled upon.
“It is our solemn belief that the judiciary has a duty not only to adjudicate justly and without fear, favour, or bias, but also to preserve the integrity, belief, and standing of our various systems, electoral or otherwise.
“We believe in the contents of our argument as much as our trust in the judiciary might be shaken but still rooted in the trustful belief that the integrity of our courts, especially our apex court, is solid and unshakeable.
“Our courts have a duty to put those who deride it as an appendage of anything or anybody to shame. They also have the holy obligation to comfort the downtrodden or, like the symbol of justice, scale views without looking at faces,” he said.
