All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to initiate a full-scale investigation into the medical supply contract to 44 local governments in the state.
In a statement, Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Abbas, also sought the freezing of the accounts of local councils in the state to stop further tampering of their resources in the name of joint projects.
He observed that the recent admission by Governor Abba Yusuf that he was unaware of the said contract was a clear indication that he was either not in control or lacked the capacity to lead the state.
Abbas described as laughable the governor’s directive to the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to probe the latest financial controversy rocking the state.
He said going by his antecedents the chairman of the commission, Muhyi Gado is partisan and, therefore, lacked the powers to investigate complaints involving the immediate family members of the governor’s father in-law.
Abbas also noted that the scandal is the latest in series of financial recklessness allegedly involving officials of the NNPP government.
He recalled that there were pending financial allegations that were either not probed or not properly investigated involving government’s officials and appointees.
He recalled that they included diversion and repackaging of palliatives by a political appointee attached to cabinet office, the alleged sales of government properties at Radio Kano, the missing funds at Abubakar Rimi Television, the illegal sales of palliatives at the state Agricultural and Rural Development Authority, and the alleged case of diversion of palliatives by a top government official in the governor’s office.
