Iconic 90s girlband surprise fans by dropping new music 26 years after huge hit

An iconic 90s girlband are back in business after they unexpectedly dropped a new EP to the delight of their fans.

B*Witched have released a four-track mini-album 26 years after they hit number one in the charts with their debut single C’est La Vie.

Called Ripped Jeans, the EP consists of three new songs So Into You, Multiply and My Greatest Little Mistake.

It also includes the previously released track Birthday, which came out last year to mark their quarter-century anniversary.

On Facebook, fans were losing it over B*Witched’s new music, with Lauren Cook raving: ‘I am loving all the songs ladies. It’s been a long time coming, congratulations  so proud of your hard work x.’

Louise Anne HM enthused: ‘In to you is my favourite, and listening to other tracks I didn’t know you had done has reawakened all the b*witched magic, the same magic I felt when I was 12 years old.

‘Now I am 37, married with two cats (all slightly unhinged) thank you for making music that makes so many of us happy in our hearts.’

Baz Andrew added: ‘Love love love it.. just been listening to it on way home from work.’

B*Witched – made up of twin sisters Edele and Keavy Lynch, Sinéad O’Carroll and Lindsay Armaou – first formed in Dublin in the late 90s.

They released their first single C’est La Vie in 1998 and it hit the top spot, making them the youngest girl group to have a number one in the UK at the time.

Subsequent singles Rollercoaster, To You I Belong and Blame It on the Weatherman also topped the UK chart.

B*Witched’s self-titled debut album, released in October 1998, reached number three on the UK Albums Chart and peaked at number 12 in the US.

Their second and last album, Awake and Breathe, was released the following year and reached number five in the UK charts. They have sold more than three million albums worldwide.

The band split not long after in 2002 but regrouped in 2013 on ITV2 reality series The Big Reunion and have been together since.

Last year the band released Birthday their first original new music in nearly a decade since 2014 EP Champagne or Guinness.

Ahead of the release, the icons sat down with Metro.co.uk and reflected on their career.

Asked what it was like to create music together again, Sinéad said: ‘Do you know what, it was so good. It was really organic how it all happened because we had done two series of a podcast over lockdown because we all missed each other.

‘Then our old producer literally was just listening to the podcast and I think he just missed being the fifth member of B*Witched. He got on the phone and said he’d love to do something.

‘It’s taken a while but I think it’s happened at the right time. The minute we heard Birthday we were just like – please! Please can we have it! It’s perfect, it’s a bit of us from years ago but also trying to bring it into 2023. And we’re here!’
