Cesc Fabregas says Luis Diaz would be an ‘unbelievable’ signing for Manchester City and may ‘make the difference’ for an already ‘outstanding’ team this season.

Brazilian winger Savinho, 20, remains City’s only signing of the summer transfer as it stands, with just over a fortnight to go until the deadline.

But City bosses are relaxed about the situation on the back of four straight Premier League titles and the club got their campaign off to a perfect start with victory over Manchester United in the Community Shield last weekend.

However, reports emanating out of Spain this week suggest the English champions are exploring an ambitious move for Liverpool forward Diaz, with the 27-year-old Colombian said to have agreed a switch to the Etihad.

It’s claimed City are preparing to test Liverpool’s resolve with a €70million (£59.8m) offer for Diaz.

Previewing the season on the Planet Premier League podcast, Fabregas said City had all the ‘quality’ to win a fifth consecutive title, with the potential arrival of Diaz only likely to improve their chances.

Asked if City can lift the trophy again this term, the ex-Arsenal and Spain midfielder replied: ‘Can they do it? Of course they can do it in terms of the quality they’ve got. They have an outstanding team.

‘You hear the rumours about Luis Diaz. Can they achieve that signing? I think it would be unbelievable.

‘Another top-quality player to make the difference.

‘I still think Arsenal, as I said last year and they got very, very close, they will be the team to look out for in the Premier League once again this year with Manchester City.’

Fabregas is ‘curious’ to see how Liverpool fare under new head coach Arne Slot and believes the Merseyside giants could do with adding a few ‘top-level’ players to their squad.

He added: ‘Liverpool, I’m curious. Everyone talks so well about the new manager and I really want to see what they are about this year, if they can sign some top-level players to increase the quality of the squad.

‘At the moment, I’m looking at these three teams to be fair and then let’s see how the season starts and if someone gets into the mix.’
