Roy Keane has revealed the two positions within the Manchester United squad that he still has reservations about ahead of the new Premier League season.

United have enjoyed a busy summer window, recently announcing the signing of Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Light and Noussair Mazraoui in a deal worth up to £60 million.

It follows the earlier signing of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee and promising young French centre-back Leny Yoro.

The incomings provide Erik ten Hag with a more youthful and rejuvenated squad as the Dutchman looks to improve upon his side’s disappointing eighth-place league finish last season.

However, former United captain Keane insisted that he he still has reservations about the spine of United’s starting XI and, in particular, their strength and depth in two key positions.

‘It’s always a worry for me about competing and I still worry about the spine of that Manchester United team,’ Keane said on The Overlap.

‘For all the nice play they have and good players, I still worry about the goalkeeper and striker.

‘On paper they have a decent squad, but the reality is when they’ve played games, and last year with their record in the league they were so open.

‘If you’re on about competing, I worry about the spine of the team. I fully expect United will do a lot better than last year.

‘They can’t finish eighth again, can they? They can’t be that bad. But we are talking about fourth here.’

Hojlund notched up ten goals in his maiden league campaign for the Red Devils last year but struggled to carry the goalscoring burden at point for Ten Hag’s side.

Onana, meanwhile, impressed at points during his first season at Old Trafford, but is yet to win over the universal appeal of fans and pundits alike, most notably former United midfielder Paul Scholes who said the Cameroonian was a ‘big concern’ heading into the new season.

‘I still worry about the goalkeeper,’ he said on The Overlap. The goalkeeper is a big concern for me. Even in pre-season with some of the goals he conceded. I worry to death about him.’
