A man died in a graveyard after suffering a ‘medical episode’ yesterday afternoon.
He was in the Tudhoe Cemetery in Spennymoor, a town of 20,000 in County Durham, when he died.
Paramedics declared him dead at the scene around 2pm.
The circumstances of his death are not yet known, but police are not treating it as suspicious.
A inquest will be held into his death. The man’s age and name have not been released.
A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: ‘Police were called shortly after 2.10pm following reports of a man suffering a medical episode at Tudhoe Cemetery, near Spennymoor.
‘Paramedics also attended, but sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
‘His death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.’
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson added: ‘We were called by Durham Police at 2.11pm to assist with a patient in the cemetery on York Hill Road in Spennymoor.
‘We dispatched two paramedic crews, a clinical team leader and specialist paramedic.’
