Drama as Sugababes halt gig mid-song to call for security

’00s band Sugababes were forced to pause a gig mid-song after calling security to deal with an incident at a performance this weekend.

The iconic English girl group currently consists of original band members Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhán Donaghy – the hitmakers behind Round Round, Push the Button and Hole in the Head.

All three were on stage at Ascot Racecourse, headlining the Dubai Duty-Free Shergar Cup amid a line-up which included Ellie Sax, Scouting for Girls and a DJ set from Denise Van Outen.

They were part-way through their final song of the evening – their 2007 hit About You Now – when disaster struck.

As the group reacted to an as yet unspecified incident – reportedly a bystander who had collapsed – they brought their performance to a halt and security was called in front of a hushed crowd.

‘Someone is on the floor – let’s calm it down,’ the band announced as members of security rushed through the throng to assist.

A video captured by Metro.co.uk shows the moment the concert grinds to a halt, as the audience falls silent.

And, as security rushed towards the stage, the group asked: ‘Is everyone else good?’

Members of the racecourse security then dealt with the incident, apparently ushering out the person in question while the band laughed and joked with the audience.

Sugababes’ appearance at Ascot follows their performance at the West Holts Stage at this year’s Glastonbury – drawing in one of the largest crowds the festival has ever seen.

The turnout was so enormous that fans had to be turned away from the event so as to prevent overcrowding.

After the enormous gathering thwarted some superfans’ chances to see the 00s songstresses, fans later took to social media demanding that they return to Glastonbury in 2025 – and be given the coveted Legends slot, which has more room for a bigger crowd.

The pop legends are back in their original line-up for the first time in 20 years, after numerous legal battles over the group’s name.

Sugababes, who rose to fame in 1999 with their single Overload, lost Siobhan shortly after releasing their debut album – replaced by Heidi Range after she decided to leave the band.

They continued to be defined by changes to their line-up, with Amelle Berrabah joining the group during the late 2000s for their final number one – About You Now.

The group split in 2011, at which point the original line-up returned under the name MSK – only recently reclaiming the Sugababes mantle.
