Urgent recall of breakfast favourite over fears it may contain pieces of metal

Shoppers have been urged to return some crumpets bought from Morrisons and Waitrose because they could have pieces of metal in them.

Morrisons is asking customers to return three types of crumpets and Waitrose issued a recall of its Hovis crumpets.

The other three types of crumpets are Rathbones Kear brand at Morrisons.

There will be notices up in both of the supermarkets explaining to customers why the products have been recalled.

The Food Standards Agency said: ‘The products may contain pieces of metal, which makes them unsafe to eat.

‘Rathbones Kear are recalling the products.

‘Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products.

‘These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products. Please see the attached notice.

‘If you have bought the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund (a receipt is not required).

Rathbones Kear said in a statement: ‘Rathbones Kear is recalling the above products with a best before date of August 6 and August 7, 2024, because there is a risk that some packs may contain small pieces of metal.

‘Please do not eat this product and return it to your nearest store for a full refund. We don’t need a receipt. No other products are affected by this issue.

‘We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety.’
