Chelsea have been urged to ‘take a chance’ on a Manchester United player who Erik ten Hag is ready to sell this summer.
The Blues have been one of the most prolific clubs in terms of transfers since Todd Boehly’s takeover and the spending spree has continued during the summer window.
Chelsea have added the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Omari Kellyman, Renato Veiga and Caleb Wiley to new manager Enzo Maresca’s squad as the Italian prepares for his first season at Stamford Bridge.
But the club’s transfer activity is not expected to slow down anytime soon, with Chelsea looking to sign Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen and also keeping tabs on Victor Osimhen and Marc Guehi.
Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke believes Chelsea need to sign another defender after Thiago Silva left at the end of last season and has named Harry Maguire as a possible target.
Maguire, who missed Euro 2024 through injury, will face increased competition at Old Trafford after Erik ten Hag welcomed teenage centre-back Leny Yoro to the club, while Lisandro Martinez is back fit having missed much of the 2022-23 campaign.
‘Harry Maguire could sit out the last year of his contract and know he’s going to play at some point due to injuries, but United really need to be ruthless and get rid of him,’ Yorke told BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League betting.

‘They have Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Leny Yoro, but Harry Maguire is in the position that he doesn’t have to go anywhere if he doesn’t want to.
‘The opportunity had passed to get rid of him because he so desperately wanted to be at Euro 2024 and he would have done anything to play. That was the time to move him so he could get regular football.
‘So that opportunity passed and he’s still there. I think we need to freshen things up at United and bring new faces in and take the future of the football club forward rather than backwards.
‘Having said that, Maguire has shown that he is very capable of playing at the highest level still and elite clubs like Chelsea, who are trying to rebuild, might take a chance on Maguire.

‘He can clearly still play at the level and a fresh start might just give him that injection to really perform again for another year or two at that top level. So you never know.
‘I played until I was 36 so I’m never going to write someone off if they’re still in their early 30s. He’s still got the attributes to do that.
‘I think players do improve if the team is doing well and winning football matches, football becomes very easy to play. Football is only difficult when things are not going particularly well and then you realise who is really good and who isn’t.
‘With Thiago Silva leaving Chelsea, there’s a gap there for an experienced player like Maguire to move into.’
Man Utd put six players up for sale
Maguire has endured a mixed spell at Manchester United, making more than 200 appearances for the club but attracting criticism for his defending and losing the captaincy this time last year.
According to reports, he is one of six first-team players United are looking to sell before the start of the new season.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also expected to leave amid interest from West Ham, while Victor Lindelof could find a new club after falling down the pecking order at the Theatre of Dreams.
Manchester United are open to offers for midfielders Scott McTominay – who has emerged as a target for Tottenham – as well as Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.
