Former Netherlands International, Wesley Sneijder, has hit out at those comparing former Chelsea and Bayern Munich star, Arjen Robben with Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo.
Sneijder claimed that both are different players.
The comparison came following Gakpo’s performance for Liverpool in the 2023-24 season which he followed up with a stellar individual campaign with the Netherlands at Euro 2024.
Gakpo ended the competition as one of the six players who won the Golden Boot at the championship.
He netted three times as he was deployed to the wings where he often cuts in from the left flank, drawing comparisons with Dutch legend, Arjen Robben, known for his trademark runs from the flank and cutting inside.
Sneijder, however, was quick to dismiss the comparison.
He said (on Soccer News via Liverpool.com): “I don’t understand it because they are two completely different players.
“Why do you have to compare them? It’s a different time. Other things are desired. People should stop making comparisons. People should just enjoy themselves.”
