From Idu Jude, Abuja
Ahead of the 2027 presidential election in Nigeria, the Labour Party has alleged that the ruling All Progressive Congress APC and the People’s Democratic Party PDP, have perfected plans to ruin its winning strategy by using the platform of the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC and the Trade Union Congress TUC.
Obiora Ifo the National Publicity Secretary of the party in an exclusive interview with the Daily Sun Monday, further disclosed that the 2023 presidential election exploits have so far attracted the attention and concerns of all rivals who now seek dubious means of putting the party asunder.
Obiora Ifo said the party would rather not be distracted by the smear campaign of biased PDP and APC stooges but focus on proffering solutions and on those things that bother providing good leadership to the people.
Mr Ifo said that the party is not oblivious to a handful of internal issues among party faithful but insisted that such have been handled through the reconciliatory process introduced by Mr Peter Obi which targeted bringing all aggrieved party members under one umbrella.
“I can tell you that there are no crises in the Labour Party, this is the handiwork of those who have journeyed many political parties seeking fortune. But like other political parties, we have just family issues and I can tell you that ours can not be liking to that serious crisis in the APC or PDP or any other party. What I can tell you for sure is that the Labour Party has become a beautiful bride and that is why everyone wants to marry her. And do not forget that only a ripened orange tree attracts stones from the public. In 2019, no one knew the Labour Party and no one hesitated to fight over leadership but immediately after the 2023 election many realized that such a party existed and with APC and PDP knee-jerking campaigns meant to kill the party”.
Meanwhile, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party has denied that there was never a High Court judgement in Abuja by Justice Gabriel Kolawole stopping Barrister Julius Abure from conducting party congresses and National conventions owing to the expiration of his tenure as the party National Chairman.
“What I can tell you, is that whatever you are hearing, is a campaign of calumny meant to distract us. There was never such court judgement. What happened was that the party on the expiration of the Chairman’s tenure, in 2023, the party extended his tenure because the 2023 election was around the corner and that was what happened”.
Reacting over the alleged abuse of the party constitution by Julius Abure led the National Working Committee NWC, he informed that the information was baseless, stressing that such comments were made by ignorant ones who are neither conversant with the dotted lines.
He said the party, is currently conducting off-season local wards and local government congresses. He also stated that the party constitution is a public document that gives every party faithful fair and equal playing ground.
