Gareth Southgate is on the verge of finally bringing football home with England set to play Spain in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday night.

The Three Lions manager has overseen an incredible eight years in charge of the national team, in which they’ve finished fourth at a World Cup and reached two Euros finals – with victory on the cards tonight.

But Southgate and his players haven’t done it alone, having been supported by an incredible coaching staff who will all receive medals tonight for their efforts.

Metro Sport takes a look at every member of England’s backroom staff, starting with the assistant manager who has been at Southgate’s side for 11 years…

Assistant Manager – Steve Holland

Steve Holland has been at Southgate’s side since day one, becoming his assistant manager in 2013 for the England U21s, with the pair making the step up to the senior side following Sam Allardyce’s departure in 2016.

The 54-year-old’s coaching career began way back in 1992 with Crewe Alexandra but it was at Chelsea where he made his name, serving as assistant manager under Andre Villas-Boas, Roberto Di Matteo, Rafael Benitez, Guus Hiddink, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Southgate said of Holland back in 2021: ‘He’s someone I trust entirely, whose opinions and views on football are aligned with mine, whose values as a person are at a really high level and his attention to detail around doing the job are an example to any coach at any level.’

But Holland hasn’t always been in the headlines for the right reasons, with reports claiming that Arsenal star Ben White’s refusal to be called-up for England was triggered by a ‘barbed comment’ the assistant manager made at the defender.

Coach – Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

One of the Premier League’s greatest ever strikers, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scored 127 top-flight goals for Leeds, Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Charlton, as well as nine goals in 23 caps for the Netherlands.

His managerial career hasn’t quite blossomed yet with mostly difficult spells in charge of Royal Antwerp, Burton Albion, QPR and Northampton Town, but he’s been a key man for Southgate since joining his staff in March 2023.

And fans were certainly amused when Hasselbaink began to wildly celebrate England’s semi-final win against the Netherlands, only to quickly compose himself after ‘suddenly remembering he was Dutch’.

Coach – Paul Nevin

This is Paul Nevin’s second spell with England having first joined Southgate’s staff in 2018, helping the Three Lions to third-place in that season’s Nations League.

The 55-year-old previously worked at Norwich and Brighton, was David Moyes’ assistant at West Ham for three years and currently balances his England duties with his job at French side Strasbourg, where he is assistant manager to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.

Goalkeeping Coach – Martyn Margetson

One-time Wales international Martyn Margetson doubles as goalkeeping coach for both England and Swansea, having been appointed by Allardyce in 2016.

The former Manchester City keeper began his coaching career at Cardiff before linking up with Allardyce at West Ham, Crystal Palace and Everton, and also helped Wales get to the semi-final of Euro 2016.

Additionally, Manchester United keeper Tom Heaton joined the team shortly before the Euros as a training goalkeeper.

Technical Director – John McDermott

As technical director, John McDermott has overseen all aspects of the England set-up for the past three years, including the youth teams, ensuring that Southgate and his side are in the best place to succeed.
