Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face Benin Republic in the opening game of the qualifying series of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ripples Nigeria reported last week that the Nigerian senior football team had been drawn in Group D of the qualifiers alongside Benin, Libya and Rwanda.
Nigeria will begin their quest for a spot in the tournament with a home game against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic, who are coaches by former Nigeria boss, Gernot Rohr.
This encounter will take place in September 2024, and the matchday two clash will be at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali for the fixture against Rwanda.

The remaining ties will take place in October and November 2024, with thr top two teams in the group qualifying for the competition which will be hosted by Morocco.
Recall that Benin Republic defeated the Super Eagles 2-1 in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture last month.
That defeat had placed the Super Eagles in a difficult position as the race for the 2026 finals in North America continues next year.
Nigeria will be facing Rwanda in March before preparing for the remaining five games, with hope of finishing top of the Group to get automatic qualification for the mundial.
