We will strengthen LP in Okigwe zone – chairman

From George Onyejiuwa, Owerri

The Okigwe zonal Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Engr Chidi Ike, has said that the Labour Party will be strengthened in the zone for the effective mobilisation of the people to free it from the hands of current political merchants who have held them captive.

He alleged that the present administration and its cohorts have ruined the future of the zone, as there is no infrastructural development across it and that, as a result, the people have continued to suffer.

Engr Ike, who stated this during a meeting with the LP local government chairmen of the zone, noted that they have continued to suffer as a result of the alleged political robbery that occurred in the 2023 general elections.

“Everybody in Nigeria knows that the Labour Party won the presidential elections. In Imo state, the 11 November governorship polls were won by Senator Athan Achonu, as were both the senatorial elections in the state and the House of Representatives. It was so for the state Assembly. But we were all witnesses to brazen daylight robbery, how masked armed security men invaded the polling stations and carted all the electoral materials to the Government House, where magical results were produced.”

He added, “We are hopeful that the Court of Appeal will do justice to our case, and we are confident of recovering the mandate given to our party on 11 November 2023 governorship polls.”

The party chairman said that only the Labour Party, which is a party of the masses, can liberate the zone and that the party will be strengthened in the zone.

“Only the Labour Party can liberate the zone from its current political captivity by political merchants. Those who claimed to be representing the zone at the National Assembly and the state Assembly, what have they done for the people? They don’t care about the people; they didn’t win any elections in 2023. But all that will change.”
