From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja
The Action Peoples Party (APP) has expressed support for the Victor Oko-Jumbo led Rivers State House of Assembly.
The APP, in a statement by its deputy national Publicity secretary, Emeka Uwazurike, said the Oko-Jumbo led assembly is the only constitutionally recognized lawmaking body in the state.
Consequently, it urged the assembly to continue to perform its legislative functions in the overall interest of the state.
According to the opposition party, the decision of the Oko-Jumbo led assembly to screen a commissioner nominee referred to it, was a step in the right direction.
Recall that Rivers State House of Assembly has been factionalised following the defection of 27 members of the House from the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) to the All Progressives Congress ( APC).
Last week, the Court of Appeal, in Abuja, ruled that the Rivers High Court has no jurisdiction to adjudicate on a case bordering the declaration of the seats of the 27 defecting lawmakers.
However, the pronouncement of the appealate court has elicited different interpretations from the feuding parties.
