A former Director-General of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign, Dr Doyin Okupe, has said his recent support for President Bola Tinubu has nothing to do with seeking appointments in his government.
Okupe, 72, said this in an X post on Monday while reacting to a critic, who called him out on the platform for congratulating Tinubu over his re-election as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
“My personal aspirations are few and I am a very contented man. I have passed the age of seeking for appointment. God has been extremely kind to me,” he said.
Okupe said he has had the privilege of serving two presidents closely, during which periods he wielded power and influence.
“I have done my bit. Whatever I say or do now is for the good of the country as an elder statesman with a repository of knowledge and experience.
“I no longer need NIGERIA to do anything for me, rather I am prepared to give my all to help in any little way I can to support the country and its leadership irrespective of who may be at the helm of power at any given time,” he said.
On Sunday, Okupe advised President Tinubu to find a political solution to the political crisis in Rivers, which he said may not end unless the interests of the disagreeing parties are discussed and reconciled.
