Erik ten Hag has extended his contract at Manchester United, the club have confirmed.
The Dutchman, who was on the brink of losing his job at the end of last season before the club’s FA Cup triumph over Manchester City, has extended his deal until June 2026.
Ten Hag’s previous contract, signed on his arrival from Ajax in 2022, was set to expire next summer with United triggering a one-year extension.
New minority owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INOES conducted an end-of-season review where they also held talks with possible replacements, including former Bayern Munich and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino.
Despite finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, the United hierarchy determined ten Hag was the right man to take the club forward next season.
‘I am very pleased to have reached agreement with the club to continue working together,’ ten Hag said.
‘Looking back at the past two years, we can reflect with pride on two trophies and many examples of progression from where we were when I joined.
‘However, we must also be clear that there is still lots of hard work ahead to reach the levels expected of Manchester United, which means challenging for English and European titles.

‘In my discussions with the club, we have found complete unity in our vision for reaching those goals, and we are all strongly committed to making that journey together.’
Ten Hag led United to a third place finish in his first season in charge in the 2022-23 season, also securing the Carabao Cup. The 2023-24 campaign however saw the club drop to eighth, eliminated from the Champions League by Christmas and lose 13 league games – their worst record of the Premier League era.
Ten Hag pointed to an endless string of injury problems as a mitigating factor behind the malaise, forced to name 14 different centre-half combinations during a campaign where his options at the back were constantly depleted.

Ratcliffe and INEOS are thought to have taken that into consideration when making their decision to stick with the manager.
Ten Hag will be working within almost an entirely new footballing structure with Dan Ashworth now in place as sporting director. Jason Wilcox was appointed technical director at the end of last season with Omar Berrada officially arriving as CEO this month.
Changes will also be made in the dugout with two countrymen set to join Ten Hag. Rene Hake will leave his role as Go Ahead Eagles head coach to work alongside the United boss with club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy also expected to return.

United’s newly-appointed sporting director Ashworth said: ‘With two trophies in the past two seasons, Erik has reinforced his record as one of the most consistently successful coaches in European football.
‘While the club’s review of last season highlighted areas for improvement, it also reached a clear conclusion that Erik was the best partner for us to work with in driving up standards and outcomes.
‘This group of players and staff have already shown they are capable of competing and winning at the top level; now we need to do it more consistently.
‘With our strengthened football leadership team now in place, we are looking forward to working hand-in-hand with Erik to achieve our shared ambitions for this football club.’
