The Jigawa State Government has dissolved the elected council chairmen of the 27 local governments in the state.
The spokesman of the Ministry for Local Government and Community Development, Mr Najib Umar, stated this in a statement issued to DAILY POST on Friday.
He said the dissolution followed the expiration of their term on Friday.
The statement, however, directed the chairmen to hand over to the Director of Administration and General Services of all 27 local governments on June 28, 2024.
According to the statement: “All appointed officials, including secretaries, supervisory councillors, special advisers and assistants of all the local government councils, are equally relieved of their appointments.”
DAILY POST reported that the Jigawa State House of Assembly has amended the local government law, extending the time for the fresh local council elections by one year and ordering the appointment of caretakers before the election time.
