Fourteen persons have been confirmed dead while several others were injured when a trailer lost its brake and ran into Muslim worshippers during the Friday Jumat prayers
The accident occurred at Imawa town in Kura Local Government Area of the state after a Kano bound trailer with registration number MKA 537 XN lost control and ran into the worshippers.
The trailer, it was gathered, was coming from the Kaduna end of the highway when the tragic accident occurred at about 1.50 pm
Kano State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ibrahim Abdullahi confirmed the tragedy in a statement issued by Corps spokesman, Abdullahi Labaran.
The statement said that nine of the deceased were buried this afternoon, while those injured were receiving treatment at a hospital in the state.
The statement reads, “Upon receiving the distress call, FRSC Kano State Command promptly dispatched personnel to the scene, alongside other security agencies to initiate rescue operations and provide immediate medical assistance to the injured victims.’’
The statement emphasized the FRSC’s commitment to road safety and urges all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
‘’The Sector Commander extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.’’
