Traditional rulers in Ogun State have been urged to emulate the virtues of the late traditional ruler of Akinale, in Owu Kingdom, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye. Estate Consultant, and land developer, Alhaji Mutairu Owoeye, stated this in his condolence message recently.
Oba Ogunleye, a topmost journalist, died on in the United Kingdom, at the age of 79. Owoeye said the king “lived an eventful life and put the welfare of his people foremost during his reign.”
“He was a decent man who had spent years serving his people without any controversy trailing his remarkable reign. He contributed his quota to the development of the state after an illustrious career as a journalist.
“He was a man of many solid parts, a peace-loving royal father who detested violence and his greatest legacy was his dedication to a stable and united Ogun State.
“He lived a full life defined by the loftiest ideals of peace, unity, patriotism, honesty and dignity. This is a sad loss, coming at a time when Nigeria needs more peace-builders and bridge-builders.” Owoeye said.
“I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the entire family of Oba Ogunleye at this difficult time. At this trying period, my thoughts and prayers are with the family. I pray the Almighty God to bless his soul with eternal repose and grant his loved ones the fortitude to bear this painful passage.”
Oba Ogunleye was a Fellow of the NIPR. He was an iconic figure and veteran public relations professional who rose to become head of public relations of the defunct Nigeria Airways and senior correspondent of the defunct Daily Times.
