Pop superstar Charli XCX has scolded fans for their ‘toxic’ behaviour at her concerts.

The Brat. singer, 31, addressed some of her fans who have been attempting to pit her against Taylor Swift

Some diehard Charli fans have begun hating on Taylor online, and even starting ‘Taylor Swift Is Dead’ chants at Charli’s shows.

Charli posted a screenshot of an X user’s video of the chants to her Instagram story, along with the caption: ‘Can the people who do this please stop. Online or at my shows.

‘It is the opposite of what I want and it disturbs me that anyone would think there is room for this in this community,’ she added. ‘I will not tolerate it.’

The caption of the original video reads: ‘Hey @charli_xcx, your brazilian fans have been showing toxic behavior by screaming ‘Taylor is dead!’ in your concerts and events related to you. Could you do something about it? We don’t believe that’s what music should be about. @taylornation13 please take notice in that too.’

All of the discourse originally began when some fans speculated that Charli’s song Sympathy Is a Knife is about Taylor, who Charli previously opened for on tour.

Lyrics from the song include: ‘Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show / Fingers crossed behind my back / I hope they break up quick.’

Charli is engaged to George Daniel, the drummer of The 1975. Matty Healy, the band’s lead singer, briefly dated Swift in 2023.

Some fans have also speculated that Taylor intentionally released a new version of her latest album in order to prevent Charli from earning the number one spot on the charts in the UK.

@Komaniecki_R wrote on X: ‘I like some of Taylor Swift’s music but releasing a UK-exclusive version of her 2-month old album to prevent Charli xcx from having a #1 album for even one week is very bizarre behavior.’

Charli also previously said to Pitchfork: ‘I’m really grateful that [Taylor] asked me on that tour. But as an artist, it kind of felt like I was getting up on stage and waving to five-year-olds. I need to just own my own f***ing s*** finally.’

Many of Taylor’s fan took this as a dig, and beef between the two artists has been rumoured ever since – but it seems Charli has finally put the rumours to bed with her post.

The day after her performance in Brazil, Charli posted message that read: ‘To all the angels i met in cdmx & São Paulo, thank u for being so kind and sweet!!!

‘Your energy at these shows was truly unmatched and i’m sooo happy i got to dj the girl, so confusing version for the first time ever whilst partying with you,” she continued, referencing the remix she dropped on Friday, June 21, with Lorde. “emotional moment fr. seriously – i love u all forever and youre so julia <3.’
