Kano Gov Rescues Late Emir Bayero’s Wife, Daughter From Lagos Home Eviction

Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has intervened to stop the imminent eviction of the daughter of the late Emir of Kano Ado Bayero, Zainab Jummai Ado Bayero, her brother, and her mother, from their rented home, by settling their overdue rent just hours before they were to be thrown out of the apartment in Lagos.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, had arrived in Lagos in the early hours of Tuesday, June 25, 2024, to negotiate with Mr. Sunel Kumar, the General Manager of Morning Side Suites, where the Bayeros have resided since early this year. Kumar had issued an eviction notice, threatening to evict the trio by 3pm of Tuesday if their outstanding rent was not paid.

In a statement posted on his personal Facebook page, Bature said that his principal’s intervention followed a public outcry by Princess Zainab Bayero on behalf of her family, which was allegedly neglected by the extended Bayero royal family following the death of her father, the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

Zainab had recently stepped into the limelight after releasing a profile and documentary about her late father, Emir Bayero.

The statement further revealed Zainab and her mother expressed their deep gratitude for the timely assistance by Governor Yusuf. “You came at the right time. We were about to be forcefully evicted from the facility due to our inability to pay the rent. They said today was final; we must move out by 3:00 PM. You arrived just fifteen minutes before the deadline, as they were already mobilizing youths to remove us from the apartment. Alhamdulillah for your arrival,” Zainab was quoted as saying.

The Kano State governor’s media aide conveyed the governor’s message to the Bayeros, emphasising that the intervention was driven by the widespread concern among Kano citizens regarding the family’s plight. “They are not only members of the royal family, but they are also our Muslim sisters and brother, currently in need,” Bature stated.

LEADERSHIP reports that Governor Yusuf’s assistance comes amid the ongoing royal tussle between the dethroned 15th Emir of Kano and Zainab’s half-brother, Aminu Ado Bayero, and the reinstated Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.
